Choosing Between Joomla and WordPress for Clients Print

We build on both, and clients often ask why one site got Joomla and another got WordPress. Our rough rule: if it is mostly a blog, WordPress. If it is a company site with sections, a contact form, members or more than one person editing, Joomla.

Joomla 1.5 came out in January and it has made the decision easier. The new version is cleaner to work with, the administrator screens are easier to explain to clients, and we can set up sections and categories that match how a business already thinks about its information.

WordPress is still quicker to learn for someone who only wants to post news, and the editing screen is friendlier. For a dentist who wants to update holiday hours twice a year, either will do the job.
