Clients started asking how sites look on the iPhone. Is it worth buying one just for testing, or is Safari on the desktop close enough?

The rendering is similar to Safari 3.1, but the viewport is different. Pages zoom out to 980px wide unless you set the viewport meta tag. And fixed positioning doesn't work as you'd expect. You need the real thing for that.

The iPhone SDK has a simulator for Mac. It's close enough for a quick look, and it's free.

No Mac at work. I'll borrow a friend's for now.
