Invision Power Board carved out a space between free phpBB installs and enterprise vBulletin licences, with a commercial product that looked and felt distinct from both — rounder tabs, a softer colour scheme, and a skinning system that entertainment and music fan communities took to quickly. It became a particular favourite of band and celebrity fan forums and music download communities, where its sleeker default look suited sites aimed at a younger audience than the hardware and gaming crowds who favoured vBulletin.
