Before Flickr made photo sharing a service rather than something you self-hosted, Coppermine was how a huge number of camera owners put albums online: thumbnail grids organised into nested categories, a view counter and star rating under every photo, a comments box, and an EXIF-style information panel listing camera make, aperture and shutter speed. Travel photographers and camera-club members used it to build galleries that looked professional without any design skill beyond picking a template and uploading folders of JPEGs via FTP.
