Intel X25-M -- $600 for 80GB?

Postby Vectrex_Kid on Tue Sep 09, 2008 3:20 pm

Intel's SSD is out: 80GB, 250MB/s reads, 70MB/s writes, and a price of about $595. Reviews say it destroys everything else, including the Raptor, for random access. Anyone crazy enough?

The cheap JMicron drives stutter so badly they're unusable for an OS drive. This is the first SSD I'd actually trust. At $7 a gigabyte, though.

$595 is a 4870 and a 360 Arcade. Wake me up when it's $200.

Work bought one for the build server. Boots Vista in about 20 seconds and compiles fly. I'm jealous of a server.

Seen it for $549 at a couple of places now. Still too much, but heading in the right direction.

Give it a year. Mechanical drives in gaming PCs are going to look as silly as floppy drives do now.
