Maybe. Cards based on the Prism2 and Orinoco chipsets work out of the box with most distributions. Many newer 802.11g cards do not have Linux drivers yet. Before you buy, find out which chipset the card uses, not just the brand name. The same model number can ship with different chips. For cards with only Windows drivers, the NdisWrapper project can load the Windows driver under Linux. It works for a lot of people but takes some patience.
We're planning an install-fest session on wireless cards later this year. Bring yours. |
