Brush vs. nib - the inking thread

Let's settle this. What do you ink with?

Me: Winsor & Newton Series 7 #2 brush for figures, Hunt 102 for details, Microns for panel borders. Higher Ground or Speedball Super Black ink.

Real ink. Real paper. Real smudges.

Hunt 102 for everything. I'm a simple man.

Been making comics since you needed a photocopier and a stapler.

I ink digitally in Photoshop with a hard round brush at 3px, pressure for size. Is that cheating?

It's not cheating if it looks good. Mine are scanned Microns, very cheating by Harriet standards.

Bringing this back - any tips for brush inking? Every time I try the Series 7 my lines go everywhere.

Load the brush, then wipe most of it off on the side of the jar. Rest your hand on a scrap of paper, pull the line towards you, don't push. And practice on cheap paper, a whole page of just lines and circles every day for a week.

Real ink. Real paper. Real smudges.
