Three weeks into the OpenOffice.org trial on the library's public kiosks, the front desk has collected 23 comment cards. Most are positive, a few are confused, and one patron wants to know why the paperclip is gone. The most common complaint is that documents saved on the kiosks open with slightly different spacing in Word at home. That's a known issue with fonts, and we've asked the library to install the free Microsoft core fonts on both machines, which should help. The most common compliment is that saving as PDF is built in. Several patrons have been using it to send resumes by email. We'll go through all the cards at Saturday's meeting. If you've used the kiosks yourself, come and tell us how it went. |
