Why we're trying OpenOffice.org 1.1 at the library kiosk

The Riverside Public Library has agreed to let us set up OpenOffice.org 1.1 on the two public-access kiosk machines for a three month trial, replacing the aging word processor currently installed. We'll be collecting feedback from patrons at the front desk and reporting back at the October meeting.

SP2 rollout causing driver headaches for some members

With Windows XP Service Pack 2 now going out through Automatic Updates, a couple of members have reported network card and firewall conflicts after installing it on older hardware. If you're planning to upgrade, check your device vendor's site for updated drivers first, and back up before you start.

Knoppix 3.6 is on the CD table

Klaus Knopper released Knoppix 3.6 last week, and we've burned a stack of copies for the September meeting. If you've never tried Linux, this is the easiest way: boot from the CD, nothing gets installed on your hard drive.
